Marty Staab

Marty has been at this for a long time, and gets excited whenever he has a chance to share a pattern, talk strategy, demonstrate a tying technique, or give a pep-talk!   His favorite function at  Elkhorn is the “Introduction to Flyfishing” class, and the “Vise Squad!” fly tying.

“I’ve been flyfishing and tying flies since I was twelve.  I didn’t know anyone else who flyfished or tied, so my most valuable tools were a bicycle and a library card.  Imagine learning to tie from hand-drawn illustrations!  For me, starting young, learning this way was invaluable.  It instills a fearlessness – go ahead and try things, because there’s nobody to tell you it’s wrong, and every little success is a gem to appreciate.   I believe a good instructor instills a fearless enthusiasm which helps accelerate the collection of each gem.”
